Network Engineer

Subnetting and Routing

Hello, my name is Michael Nowlin. I am an IT professional with a growing focus on networking and infrastructure, driven by a genuine interest in how networks operate, scale, and stay reliable. While my initial path started in cybersecurity, I’ve learned that strong security is built on a solid networking foundation and that understanding traffic flow, device behavior, and system dependencies is essential before you can effectively protect them. My technical background includes hands-on work with TCP/IP fundamentals, Windows Server and Active Directory lab environments, and basic Linux administration. I regularly build and maintain home labs to deepen my understanding of networking, authentication, and system behavior. I’ve also completed the TryHackMe SOC Level 1 and Web Application Pentesting learning paths, which have strengthened my ability to think critically about logs, traffic patterns, and abnormal behavior.

What I’m working on

...
CompTIA Security +

I’ve been diving deep into networking, cryptography, and threat management — and using Dion Training’s videos and practice exams to prepare. Their clear explanations and test simulations have been a huge help in reinforcing key concepts and building confidence for the exam.

...
CompTIA CYSA+

Currently studying for the CompTIA CySA+ certification! I’ve been using Dion Training’s videos and practice exams to prepare, and they’ve been an incredible resource for breaking down complex cybersecurity concepts. The CySA+ dives deep into real-world threat detection, analysis, and incident response — all the skills I’m eager to apply...

...
Tryhackme SAL1

Studying for TryHackMe’s SAL1 — exam soon!I’m deep into the SOC Level 1 learning path on TryHackMe, practicing log analysis, alert triage, and incident response. Feeling confident from hands-on labs and ready to take the test soon — excited to bring these skills into a SOC Level 1 role.

MICROSOFT ACTIVE DIRECTORY HACKING LAB

Built a hacking lab in VirtualBox to simulate a server network and vulnerable machines. Deployed a domain controller on Windows Server 2019 along with a Windows 10 Client. Along with a VM kali Linux attack machine.  Created a LLMNR poisoning hack to show how to use port and obtain usernames...

Rest API

Built a SQL for my company to use as a way to store cutting instructions for our customers. this way we could save every cutting instruction and put on file, so we can be able to update and change quickly without needing to worry about having physical papers for it.

Store Manager & IT Specialist
Mosida Market LLC, Butcher / IT Support
Lehi, UT | July, 2021 - January, 1970

At Mosida Market, I’m proud to take on a diverse role that combines hands-on retail management, technical problem-solving, and operational support.

As a Retail Manager and IT Specialist, I help maintain the high quality that defines our farm-to-fork mission — ensuring every cut of meat reflects the care and standards our customers trust. Beyond retail, I also handle much of our IT support, troubleshooting network and POS system issues, and ensuring smooth daily operations across the store and office.

I’ve designed and created our custom labeling system for meat products, developed a detailed HACCP plan to support food safety and compliance, and even worked on mag lock door installations to improve security and efficiency.

These experiences have taught me to stay adaptable, organized, and ready to handle any challenge — whether it’s managing a team, solving technical problems, or improving operational systems behind the scenes.
